Abstract

Summary: Ever since the first laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) performed in the early 1990s, the scope of this surgical approach has been constantly expanding. Despite of some advantages of the LLR have been reported, there are still many situations in which LLR could not match the open surgery. Open liver resection remains the referent operation regarding the patient safety, maintenance of the liver function, oncological efficacy as well as surgeon’s comfort.
