Changes of human trunk circumferences during different breathing styles in different positions

Abstract

A motion capture system, a non-invasive technique, was used to calculate change in thoracic and abdominal circumferences during different body positions (sitting, standing and lying). The circumferential changes during respiration in different breathing styles were compared in these three positions. Abdominal breathing predominates with higher abdominal circumferences, when the subject was in supine position.
